Welcome to Juguemos en Español!
This is an Immersion Learning Program for children and parents presented by:
Magda Gurrola, MFCT, Instructor
Juguemos en Español is a fun and safe environment where parents and children meet LIVE with Magda remotely to learn Spanish in a relaxed and organic manner. Children are encouraged by Magda and their parent(s) to engage in the love of learning a new language. All are given the opportunity to discover and explore the world by learning new vocabulary that can then be used in their daily lives, sessions, and as a family.
About Magda
I am a native Spanish speaker and one of my early recollections after arriving in the United States at six years old is learning English through play. This memory coupled with my love of the Spanish language has inspired me to develop Juguemos en Español to provide an environment for children to learn Spanish alongside their parents through play.
I love that my children laugh, read, write, play, tell jokes, and communicate fluently in English and Spanish. My husband and I live in the Sacramento area with our four children: Isaac (7), Valentina (6), Gael (3), and Mateo (7 months). We love to bake, hike, and make up word games to practice vocabulary as a family.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Child Development from San Jose State University and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Phoenix.
Our Mission
The mission of Juguemos en Español is to create curiosity in children through the gift of language! By providing a safe and fun environment, children and parents learn words, phrases, and songs as they bond in learning Spanish. The collection of these will allow them to feel comfortable in engaging in this language.
Why Jueguemos en Español?
One of my early memories after arriving to the United States was sitting across a table from a tutor who engaged with me in English while we played. While we played a memory card game, she shared with me in English what each of the pictures in the cards were. As I grew older and now a mother to four children, to whom I speak in Spanish, I have always thought back to that memory. I am inspired by it to facilitate activities for children so they can learn a second language, in this case Spanish. I was ready to offer Spanish classes at home, but with these unprecedented times, I have adjusted the curriculum to offer virtual classes. My desire to help children learn Spanish is something I have always wanted to do and in times like these, bringing a little fun and bonding time with parents and children is even more fulfilling.
